WELCOME! The Arts Council of Moore County requests the pleasure of your company. We are excited to offer a fourth year of Appetite for Art, thanks to the overwhelming response and success of last year's event. Appetite for Art is a series of exciting parties hosted by generous friends of the Arts Council. Dinners, luncheons, and other themed events are offered throughout the year. Cost per party is noted. All proceeds from Appetite for Art will benefit the programs and services of the Arts Council of Moore County.

PARTY RESERVATIONS: Reservations for each party will be accepted with a completed reservation form on a "first-come, first-served" basis. To receive your reservation form via mail, just call the Arts Council at 910-692-4356 or pick a brochure up at the Campbell House (482 E. Connecticut Ave., Southern Pines). Make your selections early before the parties fill up.

Party #1: ITALIAN CUISINE: ARTISTRY FOR YOUR SENSES
Tuesday, March 24, 2009 - 12:30 p.m.
Host: Elliotts on Linden

Enjoy a cooking demonstration and lunch by Chef Kim at the awarding winning Elliotts on Linden in Pinehurst. Whether they are feeding two guests or 600, Elliotts has made a reputation for serving the best ingredients in creative and inspired ways, and is always guided by the highest standard: taste. Menu will include Panzanella, individual Lasagna & Grilled Zucchini with Duet of Pesto, and Tiramisu. Deadline to sign up is March 17.

Party #2: MAH-VELOUS MAH JONGG

In a game that involves skill, strategy, calculation, and a certain degree of luck, try your luck with this party for Mah Jongg lovers. Enjoy an afternoon of play, prizes and palette pleasures. This party will be great fun for the experienced Mah Jongg players.

Party #3: TASTE OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

Come to The Wine Cellar and Tasting Room for a night of exotic foods and wines with a Mediterranean flair. We will taste a wide assortment of different wines from France, Spain, Portugal and Greece with delicious appetizers paired up to match these fabulous wines. Mingle with your friends in a private, casual atmosphere for a night of sensory Mediterranean delight!

Party #4: THE FOUR CHEFS OF PINEHURST PRESENT A MEDITERRANEAN DINNER
Saturday, May 2, 2009 - 7 p.m.
Hosts: Four Chefs of Pinehurst: Gerard Catapano, Harvey Kimsey, Gary Southard & Jim Wiltjer

The Four Chefs of Pinehurst will bring the Mediterranean to you and delight your taste buds with an elaborate, dinner with each course accompanied by appropriate wines. The dinner begins with Serano ham imported from Spain, olives from Greece, Italy and Spain, and cheeses from Italy and Spain. The second course includes Italian pasta cooked to perfection in a light pomodoro con Basilico sauce topped with Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. The third course includes rotisserie beef tenderloin with broiled tomatoes, fish prepared in butter, lemon and white wine sauce, a mixed green salad and assorted sharp and creamy cheeses. The final course will satisfy your sweet tooth with vanilla ice cream coated with amaretto laced cookies and covered with chocolate sauce and a dollop of whipped cream. Bon Appetit!

Party #6: TENNIS 'N TARTES IV

Be a part of a fun-filled day playing tennis in a Round Robin Tennis Tournament at the Pinehurst Country Club arranged by the Club Pro. Then proceed to the patio for hors d'oeuvres, wine, and an elegant buffet luncheon. During the luncheon, tournament prizes and door prizes will be awarded, followed by a fashion show and a few other surprises.

Attend the Arts Council of Moore County and Weymouth Center's popular Fine Art Lecture Series, PICASSO: A Spanish Soul among the French Avant-Garde by guest lecturer, Dr. Molly Gwinn. After the lecture, proceed to Elliotts on Linden where a special lunch will be prepared for you with a Spanish theme.

Eric Alpenfels, director of Golf Course Instruction at the Pinehurst Golf Academy, will provide an afternoon of golf instruction that will surely lower your handicap. This also makes a great Mother's or Father's Day gift! (Hint, hint!) Eric Alpenfels has been part of the Pinehurst family since 1985. He is a Class A PGA of America professional and is involved in daily instruction with both amateur and professional golfers. His expertise and professionalism have earned him recognition from Golf Magazine as one of the "Top 100 Teachers in America" and Golf Digest as one of "America's 50 Greatest Teachers."

Here's your chance to become the potter you always wanted to be. Each participant will make two pieces of pottery, either on the wheel or by hand. Included is: instructions, materials, two firings and a wine and cheese gala at the end for all to show their finished pieces to the others. The first session will last approximately 1.5 hours or until your pieces are made. During the second session you will glaze your pieces, which will take approximately 30 minutes. For the last session, you will enjoy some wine and chat about your expertise with the other potters. It will be a fun event.

Enjoy an afternoon with Aldena Frye of Aldena Frye Custom Floral Design as she gives a presentation that will include creating outstanding arrangements using "road-side" materials, "grocery store bought" bouquets, as well as other creative tips for flower and plant arrangements. Wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Aldena Frye has been a professional designer for 12 years and a business owner of Aldena Frye Custom Floral Design for the past five. Unexpected color combinations, personal design attention and exacting standards define Aldena's work to produce arrangements that are exceptionally fitting for any container or event.
